ASM at Folk in the Park Music Festival
The Project
During my gap year I lived with my grandparents and ended up connecting with The lovely folks at the sound lounge who hosted this event. I reached out to see if they were willing to let me help out and after mentioning the field I wanted to go into they were nice enough to give a position shadowing the SM and then working as the ASM on the day.
My Approach
For the preparation I was mostly helping out with loading food and drink from the Sound Lounge to the park and then helping set up tents and the like once actually at the park.
For the day of however I was assessing with filling out the riders for the various artists and assisting them with loading I when they arrived. Along with that I was there to assist and make sure things were running smoothly.
Bumps in the road
While the hope with all the planning and preparation that goes into one of the festivals is that all will go well and smoothly, that’s not always the case. In this case we had a couple incidents, with someone getting takeout brought to the park and accidentally lighting it on fire resulting in a slight bomb scare that was dealt with quickly by security. And an incident where the food stand provided by the sound lounge was running out and as I was the asm in charge of getting the riders for the artists I needed to provide the food for the headliner from the food stand. There was a bit of back and forth as they refused to let me jump the line with the headliners orders but in the contract the headliner had been promised said food. I had to get one of the event organizers involved because the kitchen refused despite multiple discussions and negotiations.
Final Product
The end result of the work was a successful festival that ran smoothly. The testament from multiple attendees was that they enjoyed it. The SM was very happy with my work and glad that I had been there to assist.
